Advanced Learning Workshops

Modality Classes are open to the public.   Some classes require books and/or lab fees, so please be prepared to make this purchase on the scheduled class day.   We require a cancellation notification of at least ten (10) days prior to class if you are unable to attend a class you have registered for.   If this requirement is not met, you will be charged the full price for the class, or you can apply this credit to another class.   Non-current students must pay in full for Modality Classes when registering.

Returning Students

To receive the AMB Alumni Price, you must have graduated from AMB or attended a minimum of six (6) Modality classes at AMB per semester.   Alumni may audit a class that they took the previous term free of charge, space permitting, first come first serve.

Scheduling Changes

Modality Class schedules change occasionally.   Please call the school or check the website for scheduling updates.   If a class is cancelled, your deposit will be transferred to another session or a make-up class will be scheduled.

Massage and bodywork achieve therapeutic effectiveness when the therapist engages in the work with a clear, calm mind and focused attention.   In this class you will learn and practice meditative techniques which apply directly to the practice of Swedish and holistic massage.

Properly applied first aid can save lives, reduce recovery time, and possibly mean the difference between short-term and life-long disabilities.   Students learn to recognize signs & symptoms of injuries and sudden illness.   Learn about how to deal with emergencies like bleeding, shock, burns, strains, fractures, allergic reaction & seizures.

The study of energy flow in the body and its effect on wellness goes back thousands of years.   This class explores the anatomy and physiology of the energy body: how energy flow is structured, how energy nourishes and connects all parts of the human organism, and how massage and other modalities can facilitate a strong, clear flow of energy to promote healing.

Acupressure is the application of finger or thumb pressure to specific points on the body.   This remarkable oriental self-care technique is now popular in the west due to its effectiveness as a preventive health care measure as it can relieve many common health problems.

Reflexology involves manipulation of specific reflex areas in the foot, hands, and ears that correspond to other parts of the body.   This bodywork involves the application of pressure to the nerves in the reflex zone which stimulate the brain and body to correct and heal itself.   Great for migraine relief.

Ethics is the study of moral principles and appropriated conduct.   Business ethics, ethics of massage, and ethical issues in a massage practice will be covered in depth.

This class can offer great knowledge into the state of you or your clients' life through non-evasive insight and medical intuitive evaluations.   You will learn to read a person's body, mind, or spirit using systemic understanding of the chakras and their physical manifestation apparent on and in the body's system.   Hands-on exercises are used to help demonstrate the unlocking of secrets about the physical, emotional and spiritual issues that can cause one's life and well-being to become unbalanced.   Various options are given to promote whole body balancing.

The utilization of a focused, intuitive instinct to "read" energetic and frequency information in and around the body.   The talent to use these intuitive skills is an innate, natural phenomenon which can be honed through persistent practice.   This class delves deeper into the understanding of mindset, focus and practice of seeing and perceiving the chakra system and corresponding auric field.   Lots of practical exercises and divination tools are explained and utilized.   Get ready to have FUN.

Learn positions to release muscular strain & spasms.  This is a gentle, highly effective technique that can be incorporated into a massage when painful areas are found.   Great for healing Sciatica and chronic pain.

Essential oils have healing properties for a wide variety of physical and emotional conditions.  In fact, essential oils have been considered among the most therapeutic and rejuvenating of all botanical extracts.   Some Aromatherapy treatments are massaged onto the skin; others are used in rejuvenating baths or home made facial steamers.   Gemstones also have many healing properties.   Students will learn many ancient healing therapies that can be applied today!

Learn the importance of lymphatic health and proper ways to drain the lymph nodes throughout the body.   Lymphatic drainage massage can improve lymphedema, weak immunity, PMS, and sinus problems.

Stones of all shapes and sizes with varying temperatures are incorporated in a full body massage.   Hot Stone Massage elicits physical healing, mental relaxation and a spiritual connection to the earth's energy.

Students learn the art of conscious touch as the foundation of this work, to create a deep feeling of harmony and balance for the client.   Swedish massage techniques are combined in a way which helps to awaken the body's memory of how all parts connect and work as one, working left & right sides of the body simultaneously, moving from fingertips to toes, and using intuition to guide the session.   Clinical research has demonstrated many healing effects of massage for cancer patients, including reduction of side effects of chemotherapy, increased immune response, and reduction of pain, fatigue, anxiety and nausea.  Learn how to adapt a massage session based on the cancer patient's condition, treatment history and other contraindications.   Focus on helping the body feel connected and normal, relieving pain, providing deep relaxation, and soothing parts of the body which have been traumatized.

A holistic treatment which provides deep relaxation, pain relief, and recalibration of body processes using pressure, rocking, stretching and joint mobilization to clear the energy flow through 14 energy meridians.   Client is fully clothed. Session One: half of a full shiatsu session, working in a prone position. Session Two: other half of a full shiatsu session: working in a supine position. Session One is a prerequisite for Session Two.

This is a three-day class.   A review of anatomy focusing on bony landmarks and muscle insertions, origins, and functions.   A great review of major muscle groups as well as other body systems.   Includes an NCE pretest.

Students will take a field trip to a local senior center and/or an assisted living center, to learn the basics for working with the elderly & physically challenged.

BASIC MASSAGE FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY 5.0 clock hours	By Appointment
Learn massage basics: massage sequence, body mechanics & contraindications so you can safely and effectively massage your family and friends.   For personal use only.   $200/ person or $350/couple.   Materials needed: 2 sets of twin sheets.   (This class is not available to students in the certification course.)
FOUNDATIONS OF THAI MASSAGE 30.0 clock hours	SAT 10/9/2010 & SUN 10/10/2010 & SAT 10/16/2010 & SUN 10/17/2010
Class Price $450.00.   $50 discount for registration by Sept. 9.   Four sessions totaling 30 hours, 9:00am - 5:00pm This course establishes the foundation of a professional Thai Massage practice.   The concept of meridians, energy lines (Sen), Yin and Yang are all introduced.   This course covers practical aspects such as stretches, acupressure points, proper use of body weight and techniques using thumbs, palms, elbows and feet.  Additional emphasis is placed on deep, focused abdominal (Hara) work.   Students will receive a certificate in Thai Massage from Institute of Sanative Arts and will have the option to receive a certificate from International Training Massage School in Chiang Mai Thailand for an additional charge. Must bring a twin-size egg crate foam pad (approx. $15 at Bed, Bath & Beyond). Wear loose, comfortable clothing to work and receive in.

Review and practice workshop to get ready for the National Certification Exam.   In this three day class we will review anatomy charts as well as eastern & western philosohies.   Two days of intense review and one day of practicing the NCE or EMBLEX test.   Class Price $250.00.   Book price= $41.95
