NCE Compliance

AMB’s Massage Certification Program is designed to follow guidelines and requirements set forth by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB), and the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP).   AMB is a state licensed school by the Michigan Dept. of Labor & Economic Growth.

As of January 2009, Massage Therapy is a licensed occupation in Michigan.     In order to attain the NCBTMB license, students must complete a certification program which satisfies all prerequisites defined by NCBTMB.   AMB provides a curriculum which qualifies graduating students to sit for the National Certification Exam.

The NCBTMB requires the following to sit for the National Certification Exam:

The duration of the program for graduation / completion must be a minimum of 500 hours.   All hours must be in-class with supervised instruction.   The following minimums are required:

  • 125 hours of instruction on the body's systems (anatomy, physiology, kinesiology)
  • 200 hours of massage and bodywork assessment, theory, and application instruction
  • 40 hours of pathology
  • 10 hours of business and ethics instruction (6 hrs min. ethics)
  • 125 hours of instruction in an area or related field that theoretically completes your massage program.

The AMB 650-hour program has been approved by NCBTMB as satisfying all requirements for our students to be eligible to sit for the NCE exam.
