Student Clinic

By Invitation Only

Students At Work

As of May 2008, the AMB Student Clinic is closed to the public.   Students are required to practice their skills by inviting family and friends to the Student Clinic.   Students may also work on AMB Alumni, faculty, and staff.   Each student schedules their own hours after 12 weeks of classes, and must train at least 40 hours in the AMB Student Clinic.   Additional supervised practice hours are earned at Internships and Community Events.

For the Client

Clients can receive a wonderful, relaxing full-body Swedish or Holistic Massage in a clean, safe, professional environment, and help students gain experience as therapists.   AMB asks each client to take time afterward to fill out a quick evaluation form with feedback for the student therapist.   This immediate feedback helps students learn, and can give them the confidence they need to become successful massage therapists.

Additional Resources

The general public may book a variety of massage treatments in our Professional Clinic with certified professional massage therapists.

Tips on How to Receive a Massage

Here is some basic information about what to expect when you receive a massage treatment.   Please feel free to ask any questions of the clinic or of your therapist.

Before You Arrive

Please bathe on the day of your massage.

Allow plenty of time before and after your appointment to check in, discuss your needs with the therapist, get on the table, and get going afterwards.

Before Your Massage

Tell your massage therapist about any recent injuries, open wounds, or body problems that need attention.   Be sure to mention medical conditions like high blood pressure, infections, cancers, heart problems, acute pain, chronic headaches, varicose veins, or recent surgeries.   Think about everything that you would like to put into the healing field for your session, including emotional problems or worries.   You can share these things with the therapist, or you can keep them to yourself.

Remove as much clothing as is comfortable for you, and remove jewelry.   Your massage therapist will keep you covered with a sheet for privacy and for warmth.

Ask any questions that you need to ask in order to feel safe and informed about what to expect.

During Your Massage

This is a good time to relax quietly!   Chatting prevents you from reaching that deep relaxation state which is essential for deep healing.   Also, the work is most effective therapeutically when your therapist's attention is focused and meditative, which facilitates a strong energy healing experience.

Please tell your therapist immediately if anything feels uncomfortable, especially any pressure that is painful.   The session is intended to meet your needs, not your therapist's needs, so don't be shy to speak up about anything that keeps you from feeling totally comfortable and relaxed.   Deep healing comes in a state of deep relaxation.

Invite your arms, legs, and neck to be completely limp.   This will enable your massage therapist to move you into various positions with your muscles perfectly relaxed.

After Your Massage

Drink plenty of water to aid the healing process.   The body continues to respond to the work for a couple of days as your energy field is reorganizing, so just let the healing continue.

Stretch, smile, breathe, feel lighter, give thanks.   You deserve to be healed!
